Bone Density

There is minimal preparation before having your DEXA Scan.

  • You must not take any calcium supplements (includes prescription and over-to-counter) the day of your DEXA scan.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing with no metal.
  • Remove any jewelry or other objects that may interfere with the study.

CT Scan

If you have any questions regarding preparation, please call the facility.

Before the study:

Some CT procedures (Abdomen &/or Pelvis) may require oral contrast the day before the exam. If oral contrast is recommended, please follow the instructions by our staff. This will help create the best diagnostic images for your study. Some medications may require special instructions. Please follow the recommended instructions by staff without incident.

Day of study:

The day of your study, you may be advised NOT to eat anything 4 hours prior to your appointment. Please follow the instructions accordingly without incident. When arriving for the study, it is highly recommended that you wear loose and comfortable clothing that does not have any metal. All jewelry, removable dental work, eyewear, hearing devices, and other metal objects may require removal before the exam is performed.

After the study:

You may be advised to drink plenty of water for 24 to 48 hours after having oral &/or IV contrast. Some medications may require you to delay taking them. You will be advised accordingly of any limitations after your study.


Digital X-ray

There is minimal preparation before having your x-ray.

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing with no metal.
  • Remove any jewelry or other objects that may interfere with the study.

Mammography

There is minimal preparation before having your mammogram.

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing with no metal.
  • Remove any jewelry or other objects that may interfere with the study.
  • Patients should not wear any deodorant, powder, or perfume the day of the exam.
  • Any prior imaging records of the breasts (Mammograms, Ultrasound, etc.) are required before interpretation by the radiologist.

MRI

There is no preparation before an MRI. When arriving for the study it is advised to do the following:

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing with no metal.
  • Remove the following:
    • All jewelry
    • Removable dental work
    • Eyewear &/or Hearing devices
    • Bra with underwire
    • Other metal objects that should not be worn into the MRI suite.
    • Wallets with credit cards & loose change (the magnetic field may damage them)

If you are claustrophobic or think you may be, medication may be prescribed at your referring physician’s discretion to assist you with the study.


Ultrasound

Day of study:

There is some preparation before certain types of Ultrasound exams.

  • Abdomen: Please do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to coming for your exam.
  • Pelvis (OB or non OB): You will be informed to drink at least 20-32oz. of water one hour prior to arriving for your study.

When arriving for the study it is advised to do the following:

  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing with no metal.
  • Remove any jewelry or other objects that may interfere with the study.

Vascular Ultrasound
